The excavations of Herculaneum have become world famous not only for the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. that destroyed and buried them completely, but above all for the exceptional state of preservation of the archaeological site.

Here, in fact, the houses, the streets, the furniture, the frescoes are perfectly visible, it is as if time had stopped on that terrible day of 24 October in 79 AD.

Precisely because of the unique details that can be seen at the Herculaneum Excavations, the number of visitors over the years has grown more and more. And many people decide to visit this spectacular archaeological site.

Here in our guide you will find all the information you need for your visit to the Herculaneum Excavations:

๐Ÿ”ด Purchase of entrance tickets to the excavations

The excavations of Pompeii attract millions of tourists every year, who come to the ancient Roman city destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. to visit the ruins that have become a symbol of that catastrophic eruption and learn about the history of the ancient city.

An eruption that destroyed the city of Pompeii and neighboring towns in a matter of hours. Submerged first by ash and lapilli and then by the powerful pyroclastic flow, which solidified the volcanic material deposited on the city, imprisoning for 2,000 years, houses, temples, stores and its own inhabitants.

Only by chance was the city of Pompeii rediscovered back in 1748.

During the excavation of wells in nearby Herculaneum, by chance, marble fragments and statues were found. From that moment excavation work began, involving first Herculaneum and then nearby Pompeii.

Since then it has been a succession of discoveries, which continue to this day and attract millions of tourists every year, curious to learn about and discover this immense heritage.

The huge influx of visitors at certain times of the year causes endless queues at the ticket offices of the excavations to purchase entrance tickets. So if you are short of time or have small children, disabled or elderly people with you, read this guide carefully!

Here you will find all the useful information about the Pompeii Excavations on:
