- VIETRI SUL MARE , THE CERAMICAL CAPITAL ON THE AMALFI COAST
Vietri sul Mare has been known for its unique traditional ceramics since the Middle Ages, when this modest town on the Amalfi Coast first started exporting its colorful majolica artworks. Bright yellows, blues, and greens are used to decorate these artisan works, and motifs and techniques have remained unchanged over the centuries, often passed from generation to generation.
To learn more about the history and culture of Vietri's ceramics, visit the Museo della Ceramica set inside Villa Guariglia in Raito or simply look up to admire the majolica-tiled cupola atop the 18th-century Church of San Giovanni Battista sparkling in the sun.

BEACHES ON VIETRI SUL MARE
A few of the largest beaches on the Amalfi Coast are located in Vietri sul Mare. Given its proximity to Salerno, availability of parking, and easy access (both via the A3 highway and the only train station on the coastline), the town is home to some of the most popular beaches among locals, especially those with children. Be sure to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds and grab a prime spot on the water's edge! There are a number of beaches to choose from, but I recommend "La Baia" , a 400-meter stretch of sand that is one of the few beaches on the Amalfi Coast that isn't pebble or rocks (just keep in mind that the water here isn't as clear as it is at other beaches on the coastline, since the busy Salerno port is nearby). "La Crespella beach" , sitting at the foot of a 16th-century watchtower and facing the Due Fratelli, two small rock formations offshore that are known as the "Faraglioni of Vietri sul Mare".
.
LA BAIA BEACH
La Baia is the first beach you'll come across traveling from Salerno. One of the few sandy beaches on the Amalfi Coast, La Baia is also one of the longest (measuring some 400 meters).
Easy to reach by car or public transport, the beach's vicinity to the busy port of Salerno means that the sea is not always as crystal clear as in other parts of the Amalfi Coast. A long-standing favorite with families, the beach has a number of well equipped beach clubs and catches the sun for much of the day.
.
LA CRESPELLA BEACH
A beach guarded by a 16th century tower and looking out at the Due Fratelli, Vietri sul Mare's famous faraglioni .
The beach has a private beach club with a car park and is usually quiet.
.
MARINA DI VIETRI BEACH
A beach of recent construction, created, quite literally, overnight, by the 1954 flood which submerged the coast all the way from Vietri to Minori.
Vast quantities of mud and debris rolled down the valley adding circa 100 meters to the beach and creating a sandy seabed which was previously nonexistent. Today the beach is divided by the river Bonea.
On one side of the river, the beach is occupied by a large bathing establishment, on the other side the beach is "free".
.
MARINA DI ALBORI BEACH
Albori, a district of Vietri with a population of just 350, is considered to be one of the most beautiful "borghi" in the whole of Italy. '
Like the majority of the old settlements on the Amalfi Coast, Albori was built high up on a hill and connected to the sea by a series of steep pathways.
Today's visitors can reach the beaches of Marina d'Albori more easily, using the steps which starts at km 48 of the SS168, not far from Vietri.
The beaches of Marina d'Albori catch the sun until late afternoon.
.
