The major tourist metropolises Milan, Rome, and Florence once again confirm themselves this year as the worst in the 2025 Crime Index by Il Sole 24 Ore , the ranking of the least safe provinces, published today by the daily newspaper. Even the top 10 is populated by major cities and tourist destinations. Nationally, reports are increasing for the first time since 2013, with a 3.8% increase compared to 2022, with a particular rise in violent crimes: homicides, assaults, injuries, and robberies.

On the rise is Rome with an increase in reports of 16.7% compared to 2019 and +11% compared to 2022, with thefts and predatory crimes leading the way (+17% in thefts and +24% in street robberies), but also drug-related crimes. Florence returns to the top of the crime rankings, driven by an increase in street robberies, which grew by 56% compared to 2022. The phenomenon seems linked to tourist flows: major cities, destinations for millions of visitors each year, see an increase in predatory and violent crimes. 30% of crimes in Italy in 2024 were reported in the 14 main capitals, with Milan and Rome alone accounting for 15% of the total.

The top 10 of the ranking is populated by major cities and tourist destinations: Florence (3rd), Rimini (4th), Turin (5th), Bologna (6th), Prato (7th), Imperia (8th), and Livorno (10th). Naples (12th), however, gives way to Venice (9th) among the top ten provinces for the number of crimes recorded in 2025.
