The Best Walking Route to Discover Amalfi in One Day

The Best Walking Route to Discover Amalfi in One Day

A complete walking itinerary through Amalfi.

Morning (8:30 AM) – The Heart of Amalfi

Piazza Duomo

Start your day with a coffee and a sfogliatella at Pasticceria Andrea Pansa, right in front of the Duomo. The square is peaceful in the early morning and perfect for taking iconic photos.

Amalfi Cathedral + Crypt of Saint Andrew + Cloister of Paradise

Climb the scenic staircase.

Admire the Arab-Norman façade and visit the interior.

Go down to the crypt, where the relics of Saint Andrew are kept (a sacred and very atmospheric site).

Visit the cloister with its white columns and inner gardens.

Recommended duration: 1 hour

10:00 AM – Fountains, History, and Tradition

Fountain of Saint Andrew

Located right in front of the Duomo staircase, an 18th-century fountain depicting Saint Andrew. Great photo spot!

Cap 'e Ciuccio Fountain

A bit more hidden, along the side alleys. Quirky and handcrafted, with nativity scene elements.

Arsenal of the Amalfi Republic

A small free museum that tells the maritime history of Amalfi, located in the town’s old shipyard. Interesting and never crowded.

Ruga Nova Mercatorum (Via dei Mercanti)

The main shopping street, full of limoncello shops, ceramics, and souvenirs.

11:30 AM – Panoramic Walk and Hidden History

Rione Vagliendola

Get lost in this quiet neighborhood of narrow streets, artisan shops, and small authentic corners. Here you’ll feel the true local Amalfi.

Piazza Flavio Gioia

A small square with a fountain and statue dedicated to the famous Amalfitan navigator. A brief stop.

12:00 PM – Paper Mill Visit and Green Walk

Paper Museum (Museo della Carta)

An actual working medieval paper mill where you can discover Amalfi’s tradition of handmade paper.

Recommended duration: 30 minutes

Valle dei Mulini (optional walk)

If you have time, take a walk through lemon groves and the ruins of old mills — greenery, shade, and peace just a few steps from the town center.

1:00 PM – Local Lunch

Taverna degli Apostoli (behind the Duomo)

Trattoria da Maria (simple and tasty dishes)

Da Gemma (more elegant, with a panoramic terrace)

Don’t forget to try a lemon-based dish, a local specialty.

3:00 PM – Sea, Relax, and Panoramas

Lungomare dei Cavalieri + Spiaggia Grande

Walk along the coast, enjoy the view, and if it's hot, take a swim or relax on the beach.

Santa Croce Beach (optional)

Accessible by boat from Amalfi’s port. More peaceful and secluded. Great for a quiet swim.

✅4:30 PM – Shopping and Artisan Shops

Via Lorenzo d’Amalfi + Via Pietro Capuano

Buy lemon products, hand-painted ceramics, artisan sandals. Look for authentic shops, not just touristy souvenirs.

✅6:00 PM – Sunset View + Optional Tower Hike

Hotel Luna Convento and Saracen Tower

Scenic viewpoint with a view of the harbor and sea. Perfect at sunset.

Torre dello Ziro (optional but scenic)

This is a steep uphill walk (about 45 minutes round trip). From the top, the panoramic view is breathtaking. Comfortable shoes required.

7:30 PM – Dinner

Le palme (beachside + traditional cuisine)

Le Arcate (beachside + traditional cuisine )

La Carcara (traditional cuisine, relaxed atmosphere)

Ristorante Marina Grande (on the seafront)
