💃 Stop doing the "Cha-Cha"! How to Cross the Street in Naples like a Boss. 🇮🇹🚑
Let's be honest. The first time you tried to cross the street in Naples, you waited on the sidewalk for 20 minutes, praying for a gap that never came.
🔴 You looked at the traffic light. It was red. 🚗 You looked at the cars. They didn't stop. 🌊 You looked at the locals. They just walked into traffic like Moses parting the Red Sea.
Welcome to the Neapolitan Traffic Dance.
In London or Berlin, traffic follows rules. In Naples, traffic follows Flow and Eye Contact. The painted lines on the ground? They are just suggestions. "Street Art," if you will.
If you want to survive (and reach your Airbnb or the Pizzeria on the other side), you must follow the Admin Rules of the Road:
💃 Rule #1: Don't do the "Cha-Cha". This is the most important rule. You step forward, the car slows down. You step back, the car speeds up. You step forward again. Congratulations, now you are dancing in the middle of the road. STOP IT. This is not a disco. Drivers hate the Cha-Cha. Pick a direction and COMMIT!
👁️ Rule #2: The "Eye Contact" Brake. You don't need a stop sign. You need to look the Vespa driver directly in the eyes. That look says: "I am walking here, and we both know you don't want to hit me." It’s a psychic connection. It works 100% of the time.
🛵 Rule #3: The Vespa Swarm. Vespas are like water. They will flow around you. Don't try to dodge them; stand still or keep your pace predictable. Let the river flow.
👮 Rule #4: The Green Light Myth. Just because the little man is green, it doesn't mean you are safe. Look left, look right, look up (for falling buckets🤣 ), and look behind you. Trust no one but your instincts.
