🌋 THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: How to get to Mount Vesuvius from Naples (DIY Day Trip) 🇮🇹
Hey everyone! 👋 One of the most common questions in the group is: "How do I get to Mount Vesuvius on my own?"
You don’t need an expensive tour to see the sleeping giant! Here is the easiest, most reliable way to do it from Naples. Save this post for your trip! 📌
🚂 STEP 1: The Train Head to Napoli Centrale (Garibaldi) station. Follow the signs downstairs for the Circumvesuviana.
▪️ Ticket: Buy a ticket to Ercolano Scavi.
▪️ Direction: Take the train heading toward Sorrento or Poggiomarino.
▪️ Time: It’s about a 15-20 minute ride.
🚌 STEP 2: The Shuttle Get off at Ercolano Scavi. As soon as you exit the station, you will see the Vesuvio Express office on your left.
▪️Cost: Approx. €10 for the round-trip shuttle bus.
▪️Ride: It takes you up the winding road to the ticket gate (about 20 mins)
🥾 STEP 3: The Hike The bus drops you at the entrance. From there, it is a steep but manageable walk (20-30 mins) to the crater rim. The views of the Bay of Naples are absolutely breathtaking! 📸
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT TIPS (Read this!):
TICKETS: You MUST buy your Vesuvius entry tickets online in advance. There is zero WiFi/Cell Signal at the top, and the ticket office at the volcano is closed. Do not go up without a QR code on your phone!
SHOES: Wear sneakers or hiking shoes. The path is dusty and rocky (volcanic sand). No flip-flops! 🚫🩴
WATER: Bring water and sunscreen, especially in summer. There is very little shade.
