๐Ÿ‹ Is Positano on your 2024 bucket list? ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‹

Is Positano on your 2024 bucket list? ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‹

It’s undoubtedly the crown jewel of the Amalfi Coast, but let’s be honest: getting there can be an adventure in itself! The roads are narrow, winding, and not for the faint of heart.

Here is my quick guide to navigating the vertical city and finding that iconic view. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿšข How to Get There (The stress-free ways):

❎The Scenic Route (Recommended): Take the ferry! Ferries run from Naples, Sorrento, and Salerno during the season (approx. April-October). Approaching Positano from the water is breathtaking and avoids road traffic.

❎The Easy Route: Hire a private transfer. It’s the most expensive option, but door-to-door service in a Mercedes van is pure luxury.

❎The Budget Route: The SITA Bus. It’s an experience! Be prepared for crowds and tight curves. Pro-tip: if coming from Sorrento, sit on the right side for the best sea views.

๐Ÿ“ธ The BEST Viewpoint:

You know the photo: the cascade of colorful houses tumbling down to the sea. Where is it?

Head up to Viale Pasitea. As you walk up the winding road from the center, you’ll encounter several natural balconies. The higher you go, the better the perspective. The area around Le Sirenuse hotel or just past Franco’s Bar offers that quintessential postcard shot, especially at sunset. ๐ŸŒ…

Save this post for your future trip planning! ๐Ÿ“Œ

Have you braved the Amalfi Coast roads, or did you stick to the ferry? Let me know below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

☕ Coffee Culture: How to save money & drink like a local

☕ Coffee Culture: How to save money & drink like a local

Did you know that in Italy, the price of your coffee changes depending on where you drink it?

If you sit at a table (Tavolo) in a popular piazza (like Piazza del Plebiscito or in Positano), you are paying for the service and the view. A cappuccino can cost €5.00 or more. This is normal here, it’s like "renting" the real estate!

BUT...

If you want to do it like a true Neapolitan, drink it standing at the counter (Banco). By law/custom, the price is much lower (usually between €1.20 and €1.50 for an espresso). It’s quick, authentic, and keeps you energized for sightseeing.

Pro Tip: In busy bars, pay at the register (cassa) first, get your receipt (scontrino), and then slam it on the counter like a local to order your coffee! ๐Ÿ˜‰

❓  Are you a "sit down and relax" person, or a "quick espresso at the bar" person?  Let me know your favorite in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒ‹ THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: How to get to Mount Vesuvius from Naples (DIY Day Trip) ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

๐ŸŒ‹ THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: How to get to Mount Vesuvius from Naples (DIY Day Trip) ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹ One of the most common questions in the group is: "How do I get to Mount Vesuvius on my own?"

You don’t need an expensive tour to see the sleeping giant! Here is the easiest, most reliable way to do it from Naples. Save this post for your trip! ๐Ÿ“Œ

๐Ÿš‚ STEP 1: The Train Head to Napoli Centrale (Garibaldi) station. Follow the signs downstairs for the Circumvesuviana.

▪️ Ticket: Buy a ticket to Ercolano Scavi.

▪️ Direction: Take the train heading toward Sorrento or Poggiomarino.

▪️ Time: It’s about a 15-20 minute ride.

๐ŸšŒ STEP 2: The Shuttle Get off at Ercolano Scavi. As soon as you exit the station, you will see the Vesuvio Express office on your left.

▪️Cost: Approx. €10 for the round-trip shuttle bus.

▪️Ride: It takes you up the winding road to the ticket gate (about 20 mins)

๐Ÿฅพ STEP 3: The Hike The bus drops you at the entrance. From there, it is a steep but manageable walk (20-30 mins) to the crater rim. The views of the Bay of Naples are absolutely breathtaking! ๐Ÿ“ธ

⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT TIPS (Read this!):

  1. TICKETS: You MUST buy your Vesuvius entry tickets online in advance. There is zero WiFi/Cell Signal at the top, and the ticket office at the volcano is closed. Do not go up without a QR code on your phone!

  2. SHOES: Wear sneakers or hiking shoes. The path is dusty and rocky (volcanic sand). No flip-flops! ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿฉด

  3. WATER: Bring water and sunscreen, especially in summer. There is very little shade.

COMMUNITY QUESTION: Have you conquered Vesuvius yet? Drop your best photo from the crater in the comments below! ๐Ÿ‘‡ If you are planning to go, ask your questions here!

๐Ÿš‹ Getting from Naples to Sorrento: Which one to choose?

๐Ÿš‹ Getting from Naples to Sorrento: Which one to choose?

Planning your trip to the Coast? This is the most common question in our group! Here is the breakdown to help you decide. ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. The "Local" Way: Circumvesuviana Train This is the commuter train. ✅ Pros: Very cheap (approx €4), runs frequently all year round. ⚠️ Cons: No air conditioning, can get very crowded, no luggage racks, not the cleanest. "Sometime" Pickpockets operate here, so keep bags in front of you!

2. The "Tourist" Way: Campania Express A special train on the same line, but newer. ✅ Pros: Air conditioning, guaranteed seats, luggage space, faster. ⚠️ Cons: Costs more (approx €15), runs less frequently, and only operates seasonally (usually April to October).

3. The "Scenic" Way: Ferry (Traghetto) Leaves from Molo Beverello in Naples. ✅ Pros: Beautiful views of Vesuvius, fresh air, relaxing. ⚠️ Cons: Most expensive option, the schedule depends on the sea conditions (if the sea is rough, they don't run).

๐Ÿ’ก My Tip: If you have heavy luggage and it’s summer, take the Ferry or the Campania Express. If you are on a budget and traveling light, the regular train is fine—just be street smart!

Which one will you take? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️

๐Ÿ’€ I Am Raimondo di Sangro, and This Is the Story of My Life ๐Ÿ›️๐Ÿคซ✨๐Ÿ•ฏ️๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ‘️๐Ÿ—ฟ

๐Ÿ’€ I Am Raimondo di Sangro VII Prince of Sansevero , and This Is the Story of My Life ๐Ÿคซ✨๐Ÿ•ฏ️๐Ÿฉธ

They call me Raimondo di Sangro, the seventh Prince of San Severo, but the world knows me by a darker title: the "Sorcerer Prince." I was born in Torremaggiore in 1710, in an age when the light of Reason was beginning to challenge the shadows of superstition. I was not destined for a life of idleness or courtly banalities. My weapon was not a brush, but alchemy, intellect, and forbidden science.

My father, a tormented man who fled his duties, left me to be raised under the discipline of the Jesuits in Rome. There, I mastered languages, fortification, and logic. But the answers I sought were not found in books approved by the Church. I craved the secrets of nature, the mechanics of life, and the mysteries of death.

Upon returning to Naples, I became a soldier, an inventor, and a Grand Master of Freemasonry. Naples was my kingdom, a theater vibrant with life and misery, but my true home was my underground laboratory. There, amidst fumes and furnaces, I sought to bend matter to my will.

The Temple of Pity and Mystery

I did not paint canvases; I carved philosophy into stone. My masterpiece is not a painting, but a place: the Sansevero Chapel.

I wished to transform the old family church into a hermetic temple, a book of marble that only the initiated could read. I summoned the finest sculptors—Sanmartino, Queirolo, Corradini—but it was I who guided their hands. It was I who gave them the marble and, some say, the secret to rendering it as soft as silk.

It is there that my greatest vision lies: the Veiled Christ.

Look at him. A broken body covered by a transparent shroud. People whisper that I used alchemy to "marbelize" real fabric, transforming linen into stone with a secret potion. Is it true? Or is it merely the superhuman skill of Sanmartino’s chisel driven by my genius? I will let the doubt torment you, for doubt is the beginning of knowledge.

Beyond Nature

I did not stop at marble. I wanted to understand the human vessel. I created the Anatomical Machines, two skeletons wrapped in a perfect network of veins and arteries, preserved for eternity. Even today, those who look upon them tremble. They wonder if these were servants killed for an experiment or masterpieces of wax and wire. The truth is a secret I carried to my grave.

I invented amphibious carriages, breach-loading rifles, fireworks of colors never before seen, and the "Eternal Lamp" said to burn without consuming fuel. Naples admired me, yet they feared me.

The Fall and the Black Legend

But genius attracts envy just as light attracts moths. The Church watched me with suspicion. The King, once my friend, distanced himself when my Masonic influence grew too powerful. I was forced to recant, to watch my books placed on the Index of Forbidden Books.

It became easy for the people to believe the rumors. They said I had killed seven cardinals to make chairs from their bones, that I raised the dead, that I had struck a pact with the Devil.

My "Black Legend" eclipsed my scientific discoveries. I died in 1771, not forgotten, but misunderstood. A scientist in a world that only wanted to see a sorcerer.

The Mystery Never Dies

And yet, centuries have passed, and my name still echoes in the alleyways of Naples.

Today, thousands enter my Chapel in silence. They gaze at The Release from Deception (Il Disinganno), with its impossible net carved from a single block of marble. They stare at the Veiled Christ and wonder how stone can look like a breath.

They called me a madman, a heretic, a magician. Today, they call me a polymath, a genius, the Leonardo of the South. My science may be lost, but the wonder I created is immortal. As long as mankind seeks to look beyond the veil of reality, I will be there.

๐ŸŒถ️ THE SPICY TRUTH: Why the Neapolitan "Corno" is not just a chili pepper! ๐ŸŒถ️

๐ŸŒถ️ THE SPICY TRUTH: Why the Neapolitan "Corno" is not just a chili pepper! ๐ŸŒถ️

You see them everywhere in Naples: red, twisted, and lucky. But did you know this famous souvenir has a scandalous secret history? ๐Ÿคซ

Here is everything you need to know before you buy one! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ›️ FROM PHALLUS TO HORN In ancient Greek and Roman times (just look at the ruins in Pompeii!), protection against the "Evil Eye" (Malocchio) wasn't a horn. It was a Phallus! It represented Priapus, the God of fertility and life force. When Christianity arrived, the phallic symbol became taboo. But Neapolitans are smart! We didn't want to lose our protection, so we stylized the shape into a "horn" (resembling a bull’s horn) to keep the tradition alive without offending the Church.

๐Ÿ”ด WHY RED? It’s not because it looks like a chili pepper! Red was the color of blood and life in ancient times. It represents energy and the power to scare away bad vibes.

๐ŸŒ‹ WHY ARE WE SO SUPERSTITIOUS? Neapolitans live in the shadow of Vesuvius. When you live next to a volcano, you learn to respect Fate! Our motto is: "Non รจ vero, ma ci credo" (It’s not true, but I believe it anyway).

HOW TO ACTIVATE IT (Save this!) A generic plastic horn won't work. Follow these strict rules:

1. Strictly a Gift: You cannot buy it for yourself, or it loses its power! ๐ŸŽ

2. Handmade: It must be fragile (terracotta or glass). If it breaks, it means it caught the "bad luck" for you.

3. The Ritual: To activate it, the giver must gently prick the open left palm of the receiver with the tip of the horn. The receiver must immediately close their fist to "trap" the luck inside! ✊

4. The Magic Words: While doing this, the receiver should recite a phrase to seal the deal. A popular one (often attributed to the legendary Totรฒ) is:

"Quello che vuoi per me, il doppio lo auguro a te." (Whatever you wish for me, I wish you double.) or

Deo et Fortunae me committo ( entrust myself to god and to luck)

๐Ÿšซ The "Emergency" Ritual (If it breaks!)

In Naples, a broken corno isn't bad luck—it's a success! It means the charm has absorbed so much negativity that it finally "sacrificed" itself to protect you.

✅ The Ritual: If the tip snaps off, you must thank it for its service. You should wash the pieces (to cleanse the absorbed energy) and then either bury them in a plant or throw them away. Never try to glue it back together; its job is done.

๐Ÿ‘‡ TELL US: Do you have a Corno? Did you buy it yourself (oops!) or was it a gift? Tag the friend who needs to bring you one from Naples! ✈️๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น
